🎯 What to Do the Week Before the ACT: Your 7-Day Game Plan

Welcome back, Test Preppers! If your ACT test date is just around the corner—especially if you’re testing on April 5th—this post is for YOU.

The final seven days before the ACT might be the most important part of your entire test prep journey. Why? Because while you may not be learning a ton of new material this week, what you do with your time, mindset, and strategy will directly affect how you perform on test day.

This is not about cramming. It’s about showing up mentally prepared, physically rested, and strategically focused. Below is your day-by-day game plan—seven simple steps to finish strong!

🗓️ 7 Days Before the ACT: Simulate the Real Thing

Pick Saturday or Sunday and take a full-length, timed ACT practice test. Start at 8 a.m.—just like the real test—and do it in one sitting. Mimic actual test conditions: no phone, no interruptions, and use your calculator.

🎯 After the test, review every question you missed and understand why you got it wrong.
âś… Goal: Build stamina, pinpoint final review targets.

🧠 6 Days Before: Targeted Review + Mindset Reset

Take time today to review your two weakest sections from the practice test. Create a cheat sheet with formulas, grammar rules, and pacing strategies.

💭 Bonus: Spend 30 minutes writing down 3 things you’re proud of in your prep so far.
âś… Goal: Sharpen weak spots + boost confidence.

⏱️ 5 Days Before: Light Practice + Strategy

Do two timed sections, like Math and Reading—or whatever sections challenge you the most. Focus on using pacing strategies like:

  • The 30-20-10 Method for Math

  • Chunking passages for Reading or Science

Look for trap answers (also called “distractors”) and practice avoiding them.

âś… Goal: Reduce careless mistakes and reinforce timing strategies.

đź’¤ 4 Days Before: Sleep, Food, and Brain Fuel Plan

Keep today short—just 30–45 minutes of review. Then shift to planning test day:

  • Your breakfast

  • Your clothes

  • Your snack and water

  • Adjusting your sleep schedule to match test day

âś… Goal: Get your body and brain into test-day rhythm.

đź’Ş 3 Days Before: Confidence Day

Today is about feeling successful. Focus on your strongest section, and do a 5-question timed drill.

🎧 Build a "Victory Playlist" or choose a mantra to use the morning of the test.
âś… Goal: Finish the day with a win and a boost of self-belief.

🎒 2 Days Before: Pack and Prep

Quickly review your cheat sheet. Then start packing your test-day bag:

  • Printed ticket + photo ID

  • Calculator with fresh batteries

  • 3–4 sharpened pencils

  • Snack + water

  • Jacket or sweatshirt (those test rooms get chilly!)

Drive by your testing center if you’re not sure where it is.
âś… Goal: No last-minute surprises!

🌙 1 Day Before: Rest + Recharge

No studying. Seriously. Tonight is for calm.

  • Eat a healthy dinner

  • Avoid screens after 7–8 p.m.

  • Do something fun and relaxing (read, journal, light TV, or take a walk)

  • Set two alarms for the morning

âś… Goal: Calm your nerves and rest your brain.

🎉 Test Day Tips

You made it! Now:

  • Wake up early

  • Eat a solid breakfast (protein + carbs)

  • Bring your packed bag

  • Say your mantra

  • Do deep breathing if nerves creep in (inhale 4s – hold 4s – exhale 4s)

  • Arrive early! Traffic is no excuse—they won't let you in late.
