Takeaways from Episode 3
Here are questions to think about in helping you decide between the ACT and the SAT:
Do you prefer paper or online testing?
SAT is only digital. ACT offers both. You need to think about if you feel most comfortable being able to write on the test or using the digital tools on the online test.
Which test format is better for you?
The test formats are very different. The length of the test are different. The timing of the tests are different. Look at the test formats, and see which one is a better fit for you.
How comfortable are you with Math?
Math has a different emphasis on each test. For the ACT, it is 1/4th of the test; for the SAT, it’s 1/2 of the test. Look at the topics that are covered in each test, and see if which one fits your math abilities.
How good are you with Reading?
Both tests have a reading section, but for the SAT, it is half of the test! However, the ACT has full-length passages with multiple questions to answer for the passage, whereas the SAT has a very short passage with 1 question to answer for that passage. Try out both and see which one works best for you.
Does how it is scored matter to you?
For the ACT, each subject test is scored individually and averaged to make a composite score. For the SAT, the section scores are combined to give you a total score. Does this matter to you?
What resources do they have?
They both have resources. Some print resources are better for one (ACT), whereas some online resources are better for the other (SAT). Once again, you have to see if this matters to you.
